2003 - Growing and Changing

2003 was a tumultuous year for Mouse and I.  We moved from Sandbar Stables in Campbell River, to Sugar Maple Farm in Cedar, and then back to Mystic Woods in Campbell River.  Well, you know what they say; whatever doesn't kill you, will only make you stronger.  Mouse and I took strength in that.

March 2003

Jo Lee and Mouse snoozing in the field at Sugar Maple Farm. Mouse is giving her impersionation of a beached whale.

March 2003

A prettier shot, though as you can see, the burrs were a bit of an issue.

March 2003

Jo Lee still watches quietly, while Mouse stands, showing off her Percheron majesty.

April 2003

Twin butts; Mouse and Jo Lee are almost the same height at the hip, though Mouse is definitely shorter at the wither.

April 2003

Ever searching for food, Mouse comes running when called. I call this her "Ace Ventura" shot.

May 2003

Mouse is now a yearling... still very much butt-high, but this photo gives the illusion of a little more balance.

May 2003

Mouse laying down on the job again, as Jo Lee soaks up the rays while standing.

May 2003

Mouse takes her time in standing. This girl loves to soak up the sun.

June 2003

Head shot; she's getting her "grown-up" face.

June 2003

Finally shed out completely, Mouse is laying down on the job again.

June 2003

Jo Lee and Mouse on a beautiful summer day.

June 2003

The sun is not kind to black horses... even those fated to turn grey.

June 2003

Galloping away. I was probably throwing pinecones at her to get her moving.

June 2003

"Now what?"

June 2003

Mouse standing, fully alert.

June 2003

Cantering again.

June 2003

Now a nice trot...

June 2003

Mouse's hunter trot... note the lack of knee action.

June 2003

Still pretending to be a hunter. See the grey in her tail? This is when I first realised she was greying on me.

June 2003

Whoa, Mouse... whoa...

June 2003

A little more hitchy...

June 2003

Cantering again! And who says drafties can't move?

June 2003

Yet another action shot...

July 2003

Mouse being groomed. At this point, she and Jo Lee had been taken off the field due to Jo Lee's asthma.

July 2003

Still tied, wearing her extra large nylon halter.

July 2003

Mouse is really starting to develop muscle and fill out.

July 2003

Weekend trip to "Phoenix Stable".

July 2003

Mouse is still butt high... but that never changes.

July 2003

Jo Lee and Mouse looking for food. Who's ears are larger?

July 2003

Early morning shot.

July 2003

Me, my Dad and Mouse.

July 2003

Dad hugs Mouse, who is unsure of the attention.

July 2003

Stealing a nibble in the front yard before heading back to Sugar Maple farm.

July 2003

Not to mention, a sip from the dog bucket!

July 2003

Jo Lee and Mouse... this was just before Jo Lee passed away.

July 2003

Mouse anticipating some more action shots...

July 2003

And she's off!

July 2003

More hunter trots...

July 2003

This is one of my favourite photos of her as a yearling... running through the burrs.

July 2003

Cantering away...

July 2003

Mouse at the Courtenay Derby.

August 2003

A little gallop...

August 2003

"You can't catch me!"

August 2003

A quick break before running again...

August 2003

Yeah, nice burrs, Mouse.

August 2003

Tail all knotted up with burrs... it's no surprise how much hair fell out.

August 2003

Then, all detangled and burr-free.

September 2003

Mouse trying on a bridle for the first time.

September 2003

She looks like such a big girl, but she's only about 18 months old.

September 2003

Mouse is back at Mystic Woods. Remember her yearling photo at that fence?

September 2003

She has really grown, and stands about 15.2hh.

November 2003

First snow... yuck!

December 2003

Mouse has a photo shoot in all her velvet glory.

December 2003

Mom gives Mouse a cuddle.

December 2003

Say cheese!

December 2003

I'm trying to keep Mouse's attention here... she looks good, but I don't!

December 2003

Me and Mouse... shows how big Mouse's head is!

December 2003

A quick cuddle...

December 2003

Merry Christmas, love Mouse!
