Welcome to Highland
Clover: Fenlea Farm!
Highland Clover Farm was founded in the autumn of
2005, when I relocated from Vancouver Island to the Cariboo Region of British
Columbia. Situated on a little over 8 acres, Highland Clover Farm was named for
my Scottish roots and the abundance of clover I found on the property. It was
my first ‘real’ foray into farming, and a learning experience to be certain. I
had part of the land cleared for pasture, built a chicken house, and expanded my
herd from a horse and one cat to several horses, a flock of sheep, a herd of
goats, chickens, and a dog.
By the spring of 2008, I was ready to expand further,
and take many of the things I had learned and put them into practise. Thus,
Highland Clover Farm was sold, and Fenlea Farm was born. Also situated in the
small community of Baker Creek, Fenlea Farm encompasses 25 acres of land,
including hayfield, meadow, wetland, and forest. Starting from scratch can be
an incredible experience… the small cabin was my first major building project
ever, and would not have been possible without the help of my family and
friends.
The goal of Fenlea Farm is to live as much of a
self-sustainable and ecologically friendly existence as possible… but as with
everything I do, this will largely be the result of trial and error. 2009 holds
much promise, as I continue to work on the cabin, expand my garden and
greenhouse, and expect the arrival of lambs and kids… undoubtedly with the
occasional surprise along the way!
